Robert McWey, former NUPIC Industry Chair and former SCE Manager of Oversight Joins the NTD Consulting Group as a Senior Partner

In January 2015, Mr. Robert McWey joined the NTD Consulting Group as a Senior Partner and Principal.  Mr. McWey’s addition further strengthens NTD Consulting Group’s capability in the quality assurance area.  

Robert has over 38 years in the nuclear field including 30 years of commercial nuclear experience associated with Southern California Edison (SCE).  Prior to his retirement from Southern California Edison, Mr. McWey functioned as the Manager of Oversight and Projects Oversight. His responsibilities included site audits and inspections, nondestructive examinations (NDE), vendor oversight, commercial grade surveys, material test/receipt inspection, and the commercial grade dedication laboratory.   

Mr. McWey has also been very active in the nuclear industry where he has held the position of Chairman of the Nuclear Procurement Issues Committee (NUPIC), Chairman of the Private Fuel Storage LLC QA Committee, Regional Representative and Vice-Chairman on the NUPIC Steering Committee, and a Member of the Nuclear Industry Evaluation Program Committee. He also served on the Integrated Nuclear Data Exchange (INDEX) QA Steering Committee. He participated in the National Nuclear Security Administration’s International Nuclear Safety Program workshop in the Ukraine as a presenter and Industry Expert on vendor quality and oversight.

Mr. McWey co-authored the “Nuclear Industry Evaluation Program Guidelines” (NQML 07-002; 1/2007) and the “Nuclear Industry Evaluation Program Performance Objectives and Criteria” (NQML 07-001; 1/2007) that are used by the industry to assess the effectiveness of nuclear utility quality oversight organizations throughout the United States and Canada.

Mr. McWey has a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Southern California and a Masters of Business Administration from National University. Mr. McWey has completed ISO 9000 Lead Assessor Training and obtained ASQC Quality Engineer certification.  He is currently certified as an NQA-1 / ANSI N45.2.23 Lead Auditor within the commercial nuclear industry.
